Background: practicing pharmacist right outside of NYC
Present time is tough time. Many of us have been burdened by high student debt, job loss and impossible job market well before COVID. It is not the time to drown in our sorrows. Keep saying the Titanic is sinking is not helpful but try to get every possible person on a life raft is. News focused much of their attention on hospitals, rightfully so. I just want to share to you all on the life of pharmacy/pharmacist in the mid of pandemic.
First, keep yourself and your crew safe. Patients who are positive would still come pick up their prescription. Get mask, shields, cleaning supplies. Big companies are always slow to response. Pharmacy staff here even use clear shower curtain to create a barrier. Necessity drives creativity.
Second: Look up your HR contact and your sick time policy. People will get sick. It is absolute nightmare to have to deal with HR on top of been sick. For the unfortunately few who may get COVID, patients are recovering with reduced lung function and other issues. Please review your short term disability options. If you have life insurance, assign a beneficiary so your love one can access the funds when the worst case happens.
Third: sign up to receive email update from your state's department of health and/or Board of Pharmacy. Misinformation is everywhere. Keep yourself inform with the latest governor's order. We saw a huge surge of Plaquenil for "malaria". Arm yourself with the right info and fight back.
Stay safe, marathon just started.
