You could go to medical school to become a head and neck surgeon or ENT. But you are also not guaranteed this residency.
I want you to ask yourself how determined and intelligent you think you are. Getting into medical or dental school is difficult. Getting either the oral surgery or the ENT one is even more competitive.

If you are definitely not happy about potentially being a general dentist, I think you should apply to medical school, work your tail off and shoot for a surgical residency.

If I remember correctly, reverse OMFS track is very hard and somewhat impossible to attain. Remember OMFS is a dental specialty. Maybe consider ENT? Seems like you have a lot of thinking to do.

I am currently Pre-Dental and I want to become an Oral Surgeon. I have no desire to be a general dentist and the oral surgeon specialty is what really stands out to me. If I have NO desire to be a general dentist, but I really want to be an oral surgeon, I'm starting to think maybe dental school isn't right. After all, what If I don't get in to an oral surgery specialty? Maybe if I want to be a surgeon I should just plan on med school.

Do you think that If I want to do Oral and Maxillofacial surgery but for sure not general dentistry, should I still apply to dental school and go for it?

OP--Becoming an oral surgeon, to put it bluntly, is outrageously hard. You have to be the very best of the best in dental school. I would never go into dentistry if that was the only thing that could make me happy.

I'm the same way. Either wanna do omf or TMJ/Sleep Apnea/ cosmetics. Obama and all the strong recs to do dental from all med docs I shadowed is main reason for me.

You should go to medicine. You can do ENT (which is closest to OMFS and actually pays pretty well) or General Surgery.

It is possible to do medicine and then go into Oral Surgery residency, but it is a path fraught with difficulty and uncertainty.

Don't go to med school planning on ENT. It's right up there with OMFS in terms of difficulty to land. General surgery is probably more doable for a non-rockstar med students (which almost everyone is).

On the other hand, my roommate (who just got accepted to various of the top med schools in the country) has been told by numerous physicians not to go to med school.
