I was fortunate enough to have interviews at my top 2 schools. They should notify me on December 1st.

And I have an interview on December 2nd. Would you attend the interview??

These are some issues with that.

1. I could book a REFUNDABLE ticket.

(If I do attend the interview, it will cost me $200 MORE dollars.)
(If I don't go, the school won't find the replacement and I'm basically telling them 'f ck you. im not coming'

2. I could book a NON-refundable ticket and I can call the office of admission to cancel A DAY BEFORE.

(I think this is very unprofessional and such an jack-a-ss move; adcom would not find someone to replace)
(I lose my flight ticket which worth $250 plus alpha)

3. I could book my flight and hotel on December 1st.

(The ticket costs $200 more dollar and not sure how much more for hotel)

4. Fck it, just book it now and attend regardless

(get slammed with school work. taking gross anatomy and cal 2. def don't wanna do that)

5. Reschedule to later dates.

(I don't think they would let me reschedule for 1 or 2 weeks later. They are probably booked up to January).
(in the worst scenarios, I get rejections from all schools. Then this becomes my number 1 choice. Jan interview will be too competitive to get accepted)

What's your pick???

This is a sort of related question, but I'm wondering if schools can see which schools have interviewed/accepted/rejected applicants? Anyone know anything about how AADSAS works?

Did you even try to do option 5 before you posted this? If option 5 is viable, then there's no dilemma.

Wow, this is a really tough one!

I guess, personally, I'd book a refundable ticket and cancel if I got into one or both of the schools on Dec 1.

with 1, I still need to call a day before and cancel. The school won't find someone to replace. Isn't that kinda shady? They spent all this time to look at my app and is giving me an opportunity be a student there. I feel like I am saying to them "F ck you. I am not coming". lol

Yeah but if you go, would you seriously consider the school? If yes, then go! If not, then you're just wasting your time and theirs... so it really isn't any better to just go for the sake of not canceling a day before.

lol that's right.. hmm.. then the last option seems the best. Reschedule for a later date. But anyway, I have a great feeling you will be accepted to one of your top schools.

i updated my original post but if I get rejected from all schools, this schools will be my number 1.
Then your pick is #4 I guess right?

Dude, don't worry about that. There are plenty of applicants they can choose from. To them, they'll be happy that you're not wasting their time if not truly interested in their program. They'll be like ok, on to the next one.

Also, you don't owe these schools anything. They're not going to be there holding your hand 10 years from now making sure you're successful.

Hmmm... I'm still leaning towards plan to attend, but if you get into the other schools don't go. Personally, I don't think they'd care too much if you cancel the day before (it probably happens a lot), but if you really don't want to, then my second vote goes for #4.

alright.
I guess I will do #1 route.
Book a refundable ticket and see if I am accepted. If I am, call them to cancel.

Thanks guys! appreciate your inputs!

@NguyenDDS thanks! I hope you get into either MWU or ASDOH. both great school! if you go to either one, i let my friends to pass down their notes 😉

This kind of happened to me. I picked #5 (wishful thinking :xf:)

If it were me in that position, I would choose #5 because...

1) At least I do get to interview at that place, even if it is in January. If you've already have quite a bit of interviews, I'm sure you have a good shot at acceptance still.

Since I applied late, most of my interviews will be post-December...so I'm also doing a little praying and hoping here too.

2) You don't have to waste money booking flights and canceling on the school too close to the day (when you don't know if you're getting into your top choices)
- if you might get accepted on December 1st, it'd be nice to help someone else that also really wants to go to dental school to have that interview seat if you're not going to it.
- booking flights and hotels will be expensive on Dec 1st

3) So, you're not behind on your schoolwork too much from all these interviews.

Good luck on your decision, whatever you decide to do 🙂

I say attend December 2nd no matter what. I know you may lose money and time from studying, but:

a) If the two schools you are waiting on reject you, you will need this interview
b) If one or both of the two schools accept you, great. You can still attend this interview and see if it is right for you, under low pressure because you already have an acceptance.
