December/early January interviews

I am applying to MD/PhD programs this year. For those of you who have been through this process, do many schools have interview dates right around Christmas/New Years? I am trying to book a cross country trip for this time period now (hopefully save a couple hundred dollars), and I am trying to decide if I should spend extra for a flexible ticket.

Does anyone know if any west coast schools (UW, OHSU, Utah, Colorado, any Cali schools) typically have late December or early January MD/PhD interview dates?

Has anyone had trouble booking personal trips around this time?

I had most of my interviews in January and early February, though I did not interview anywhere on the west coast, so I can't speak to that part of your post.

I say go ahead and book your trip. Usually if a school schedules you for a specific date and it conflicts with your schedule, you can ask them to reschedule to another date (as long as you ask far enough in advance). Some schools will give you a choice of a few dates. If you are really concerned, you can email the schools to let them know when you will be away.
