Decent DAT AA and TS scores, but really bad on reading comp. Do I still have a chance?

Hi there! So I just recently took the DATs and have received the scores of:
Bio-20
GChem- 23
OChem- 23
PAT23
RC- 17 🙁
QR- 19
AA- 20
TS- 22
What I'm mostly afraid of is how much emphasis they put on the reading comp scores (which I heard is a decent weight). Do my PAT and TS scores make up for this poor score, or should I try to retake within the year? My GPA is also not on the high end (3.35) and the schools I'm trying to shoot for are USC, UOP, Western, NYU, and UDM. Also have done a lot of extracurriculars, shadowed 100+ hours, and working as a Dental Assistant at the moment. Do I have a shot?

clearly you can read just fine...i think youll be ok

Out of pure curiosity, why are you shooting for literally the most expensive schools in the nation?

RC was the death of me, it was my lowest score but I feel my AA and PAT made up for it. We have roughly the same scores. If I were you, I would apply to a few more schools.

I would recommend you to contact your schools of choice and ask for their RC minimum cut off. First time I took DAT 21aa 22ts 17rc, they made me to retake the DAT to improve RC score because they have a cut off at 18.

I'd prefer to be in California and I feel like those schools listed were my best chances of getting in. I'm still going to apply broadly and apply to other schools and make use of my Canadian citizenship to also apply to Canada schools too. (NYU and UDM i'm applying to because my friends go there and have recommended them to me).

That makes me feel a bit relieved! And yea I'm definitely going to apply to a lot more schools. The ones I have listed were just my best chances of getting in.

Damn which schools made you do that? And yea I was going to contact some of them about it within the coming months

really don't want to be a dick but I'm not sure about the canadian schools part. All but one school (western) vastly prefer in province applicants (they straight up tell you on their websites) and accepted OOP applicants typically have perfect gpas and 99th percentile dat score.

I got accepted to UoP so I can tell you that they heavily weigh the RC score. But I don't think its worth you retaking. Your DAT is good, GPA is on the lower end but if you have solid extracurriculars and strong letters then I'm sure you will get interviews. Just be sure to apply early.

I think you have a chance apply to a lot of schools... I am not sure about NYU though because I read through the 2019 acceptance/rejection thread and apparently they don't accept RC of 17... but hopefully they will overlook it for you!

I was wondering if the dental school that made you retake just wanted you to improve the RC to at least 18 while the other scores did not matter, or they wanted you to get similar scores to your original DAT.

I'm in the same boat as you are. 🙁
I'm worried also. We have similar score also.

Literally same boat DAT TS-20 AA-20 PAT-25 OC-20 Bio-19 RC-17 QR-21 GC-23 GPA is 3.95 . I am also working as a dental assistant and have good ECs. I am so worried that they heavily weigh the RC, and Bio 🙁

Cut off scores people. Research the schools individually and see their policy.
