Does anyone have tips for applicants who commit to Cardiology later on during residency (mid second year)? I have research in a different field from before residency but don't have any cards-specific research or case reports. Is it feasible to get meaningful research projects going in the next 6 months and have a strong application if coming from mid-level program? Are there any cards-specific research meetings to aim for that are still within reach?

Thanks all

ACC is already past and AHA will be too late. Submit to HFSA, SCAI, maybe TCT in 2020 and you can expect notification of acceptance before ERAS app is due.

Depends on how competitive you are as an applicant, your residency, region, scores, your home program might be your best bet. Speak to your PD and your home fellowship PD and make your interest clear.

Don't be a douchebag and if you are a likeable person and a decent candidate/AMG then chances are you will be ok.

The tip is just start getting involved as much as you can.... Honestly doesn't matter the "meaningfulness" of the research or meeting. Just go present case reports and get involved in cards based research projects.

How strong your application is .... is based on a lot of factors out of your control right now (quality of IM program, no red flags, Step1/2 scores, AMG vs IMG vs DO).

if you're an amg with no red flags a good match in cards is easy. field was not competitive this year. be ready to work harder than ever and suck it up for three years before that cash train comes to the station.
