Hi, I decided to attend NYU next fall. I kept looking this forum and found out that it's good to go where I like.
So, is there anyone who know about their free research for two months before starting D1?
Do you think it's worth it? I don't want to burn myself ahead of D1, but when most of students do, no option to follow them.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat as you. Definitely going to NYU in the fall. I don't know the area too well so I think I'm going to apply for it and get to know the school and surrounding area better. I think it will make me more confortable when dental school begins. Did you join the facebook group yet?

I think it's definitely worth it. You'll know ahead of time whether you like dental research or not; if you do, you've got a head start. If you don't, you can drop it without having wasted actual study/class/leisure time in the hecticness that will be our D1 year.

It's really a win/win scenario, and on top of that you get a summer in NYC.

The research is definitely a good experience. You will meet upperclassmen, get to know some professors and start building your network. Hope to see you next year! I love it here.

I personally haven't fully made my decision yet, but I know if I do choose NYU that I'm going to apply for the research program.

I don't think you have anything to lose. It shouldn't burn you out because its not like a school assignment. It's definitely a good experience to see how you like research, faculty and student networking and also just to learn the area/school. Plus if you plan to specialize, it'll obviously give you a jumpstart on that path.

yay, we can all be friends! i was also thinking about doing the research program, but that means i'd have to quit my job 2 months early which means i'd lose out on $$$$. i emailed dr. russell and she said it's pretty much a full time thing, and while i think i'd commute during research until classes start (on long island), she said there's the $4000 stipend for living expenses - but a) i don't know if they'd give it to me if i commute and b) she made it sound like everyone gets it, but the letter says you can "compete" for one. so i guess i need to find more info out or probably not do the research.
