I have two computers that I am deciding between for dental school. If you have any experience with any of these two laptops please give your opinion.

1. Dell Latitude XT2 Tablet PC
-Intel® Core™ 2 Duo SU9600 with VT (1.60GHz, 3M L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB), LED LCD
-Genuine Windows® 7 Professional, 32-bit
-3.0GB DDR3 SDRAM, (1GB Integrated) 2 DIMMs
-256GB Dell Mobility Solid State Drive
- With the Multitouch screen (12.1 inch)

(I like the idea of writing on power points, word docs, and PDFs without getting out separate paper out. Not sure if the computer is fast enough to handle everything dental school will throw at me (Large numbers of PPTs and programs). This computer can not be updated any more than I have done.)

2. Dell Latitude e4300
-Intel® Core™ 2 Duo SP9600 with VT (2.53GHz) w/Latitude ON™ ready
-Genuine Windows® 7 Professional, 32-bit
-Dell Latitude ON™ Reader – Instant read access to Outlook data
-4.0GB, DDR3-1066 SDRAM, 2 DIMMS
-256GB Encrypted Mobility Solid State Drive
- 13.1 inch screen

(I like the idea of having a 4.0GB and 2.53 GHz processor. Not sure if it will make a huge difference. I believe this has a disc drive unlike the tablet pc. Don't like the idea of not being able to keep all my notes in one place.)

Both are about equal in cost with the upgrades I have selected, so cost is not an issue. I just want the computer that will serve me best in dental school. What is your opinion?

Of the two that you listed I would go with the latter because of the better processor. A tablet would be cool to write on PPTs and pdfs, but you can use the "typewriter-like" option to jot down notes on a normal laptop (so you don't really need extra pencil/paper).

Not sure on how much you're looking to spend but Lenovo and Mac are the two laptops that I would recommend to anyone.

I would not buy either.

Go with a Mac and don't look back.

I WISH I could go with the mac but Dell and HP are the only two brands I have the option of buying do to restrictions by the dental school. These are the best two that I could come up with from dell (I only have 4 to choose from).

MAC is out UNFORTUNATELY.

I was thinking the tablet would be cool because you can draw any diagrams/charts/drawings the proffesors draw but I dont know anything about tablets and if they are good.

Thank you for your votes! It would be helpful to me also if you could post a reason why you advise to get one over the other. Especially, if you have had experience with the computers.

I would definately go for the tablet. I'm just finishing my D2 year and I have been extremely happy with my tablet (Toshiba M700). I find I get more out of class when I actively mark up my powerpoints/pdf. Check out microsoft OneNote if you go the tablet route.
I'm impressed your school gives you a tablet option... do they let you get an HP tablet? I've heard good things about them.
I'm not on here much, but if you have specific questions send me a PM.

Tablet all the way! These things are soooo useful for taking notes (I don't know how helpful they would be in dental school though).

If you are allowed to, take a look at the Lenovo x201 tablet. It is a much better deal, as well as a higher performing machine. Use http://shoplenovo.i2.com/SEUILibrar...:Home?home=lenovofamily&affinity=lenovofamily for a 10% discount (legally, I must disclose that you must have family or a friend that works at Lenovo).
