Hello all,

I am currently deciding between UNLV and Minnesota. I am currently hoping to specialize following dental school. I enjoyed interviewing at both schools, but I favor Minnesota slightly. However, tuition at Minnesota for OoS is significantly higher than UNLV.

I got the impression from my interviews that Minnesota would be better for specializing and UNLV focused more on preparing for GPs, which would make me lean more towards Minnesota. However, I've also heard that the school you go to does not matter much for specializing and it matters more your class rank and how well you do on boards.

Do any of you have any insight? Thanks!

Is there any resource that states what percent of students specialize from each school?

UNLV offers in-state tuition after 1st year. It would be best to call both programs for specialization rates.

You can specialize from anywhere. Boards and class rank is what matters. Go to UNLV if tuition difference is more than 50k+. Just looked up Minnesota and its around 500k for OOS. You'll be thanking yourself later. Don't even worry about specialization rates unless the price is similar.

You save $240K going to UNLV. Go to UNLV. Also I'm going to UNLV. Be my classmate 🙂

I interviewed at Minnesota. I enjoyed the school, but the OOS tuition was way too expensive.

Also, Minnesota winters are no joke. Idk if you're from a cold state, but Minnesota is probably the coldest state in the country. If you are more of a warm weather person, definitely stick with UNLV.
