I got waitlisted for an interview at my IS (UF). I still have to take two animal science courses to fullfill all the pre-reqs. I was planning on spending the summer preparing to retake the GRE and working two jobs to gain additional experience. At work the vet told me at UF the year she got accepted they ended up calling people who never got an interview a spot for a position in the class. I know the odds are extremely slim but my dilemma is whether I should not take the two classes and spend the time on the GRE or take the GRE and not the classes (if I dont take the classes I cannot go to UF regardless if they call and I cannot do both the pre-reqs and retake the GRE (I got an 1110).

I was wondering what you guys would do if you were in my position. My vet just freaked me out when they said they gave positions to people who were never interviewed.

Thanks!

In the little session with Jonathan Orsini (the admissions director) after our interviews he said that in the past the alternate list had been very short. It was so short that if you were on the alternate list you would almost definitely get a call. In fact, they frequently had to call rejected people because they would go through the whole alternate list. However he said this year was different. This is his first year as admissions director and he said that the alternate list would be longer so that they don't have to call rejected people. I also was under the impression that they called people who were rejected after an interview, not someone who never interviewed at all.

I know a girl that got called after being rejected after her interview at the end of the summer a few years ago. They told her then that if she didn't have the courses (Animal Science and Animal Nutrition) that she could complete them the next summer (between 1st and 2nd year) because they understood she didn't have time to complete them. She however had already completed them so she didn't run into that problem.

In my opinion, retake the GRE and improve on all of your other stats. Definitely do the post-mortem interview (I'm assuming they'll be doing them soon since April 15th is approaching) and improve on everything you can. I wouldn't expect a call though since you never even interviewed this year.

Good luck! :luck:

Yes that is what I was thinking. I actually have a file review in a few weeks at UF and have been working on improving my application since I applied last october.

The two required animal classes: intro to an sci and nutrition, are both very, very easy. You could absolutely study for the GRE and take both these classes and still have lots of free time.

I think you can do it all as well because I did take an animal nutrition class and I found it pretty easy. I would definitely take the classes though because if they do call and that keeps you from going, you're going to regret it. Good luck! 🙂
