Hi! First of all, I just want to say how helpful this forum is, I just discovered it and has answered alot of questions that I could find no answers to anywhere else. I am finishing my fourth year of college at a small midwestern university, double majoring in psychology and art. About a year ago, I decided I wanted to pursue med school, specifically psychiatry. I decided the best way for me to do this is through a post-bacc program. However, I haven't sent in any applications yet, and would like to enroll in a program in Fall 2005. On researching programs further I realize that most start in the summer, and I have missed alot of application deadlines already. I have no science prerequistes, besides a few anatomy classes, and am wondering if it's even possible to start in the fall, or should I just take a year off and apply for next summer? My undergrad GPA is 3.84. My top three college choices are Bryn Mawr, Drexel, and Tufts. Any help would be appreciated!! thanks!

Hola,

Yep, 'ain't SDN GREAT? 😀

I'm not to keen on this fall's deadlines since I won't be trying for the hard science Master's Programs (EVMS, G-Town or Tulane) for another year or so.

If you do need to take the year of because you have missed the application deadlines, have you considered getting a jump-start by taking a class or two this summer or fall? A kind of -do-it-yourself post-bacc?

A 3.84 is a good gpa. IMHO not everyone needs a formal post-bacc. If you can get Bio, Chem, O-chem and Physics and knock them out of the park (like you did your Psychology degree) along with a great MCAT, you stand a REAL good chance.

You already now the ropes at your college, you have a support system, You won't break the bank, you can find out which prof's won't chap your behind, etc, etc....

Unless your worried about your school's reputation?

But since our purpose here is not to discourage, here is the link to AAMC Postbaccalaureate Premedical Programs. You may find one the you can still get into for Fall:

Oh, and check out this website for stats on applicants to the med school you have in mind:

If you keep posting and provide some details, some of the smarter folks in here will be able to provide better advice 😛
