I was selected recently for the HPSP scholarship with the Air Force. I was ready to sign but then had someone suggest I pause and do research. I did and am not leaning towards declining the offer. I spoke with my recruiter today and he said that if I decline, I will have to get a special waiver from the Pentagon if I ever want to apply to join the military again. He said that I have been labelled a "select" and that if I "decline commissioning" it will be on my record and if I apply for the 3-yr, FAP or even as a licensed physician, then I will probably be turned down unless I get this waiver.

Is this true? Has anyone out there declined the HPSP scholarship and joined through FAP or as a physician?

Lol. Of course not. The list isn't at the pentagon, it's kept next to the launch codes in the football.

they are sooooo desperate for doctors that they will pay for your entire medical school to lock you in......if you show up with a license and a pen, they will give you commissioning papers

I know people who have been kicked out of or quit a service academy and still ended up becoming an officer through ROTC or OCS. There is no way that just declining HPSP will prevent you from joining at a later date.
