Hi folks!
At least several of you invariably find yourselves in the same boat as I.

I have applied to aboout 15 MD schools, 4 DO schools, interviewed at several of each, and am planning several future interviews as we speak.

I have an acceptance to DCOM on the table, but would like to explore my options before dropping their $2000 deposit!

My personal deadline is Jan 8th, which means I'd have to overnight the check TODAY.

Obviously, I don't want to shoot myself in the foot. I genuinely appreciated a lot of what DCOM had to offer, but it just seems a little premature to be throwing that kind of money around.

Please help, quickly!

Joe

Doesn't seem like you have much of an option. Either you want to make that one business day deadline, or you don't.

Sorry but I think you have to put down the deposit. I wouldn't gamble my future for the possibility of another acceptance. Besides, DCOM is a great school! 😉 Good luck!:luck:

I totally agree with DrMom 🙂 By the the way DrMom congrats 👍 🙂 🙂 🙂

me too, i agree with doctormom, you don't want to regret this later.
Besides 2000 is a pocket change comparing to what your med school education will cost you.

AGREED. I had a 2k deposit due in December and thank god I paid it because to date I have nothing else on the table. If you choose not to send the deposit you could be gambling your future. What if you don't get any other offers? You'll be screwed. Better to pay the 2k now and eat it later for a better opportunity, than not pay it and have nothing.

$2K???? Geezzz that's just unreasonable. If you have other acceptances to comparable schools, then just leave THAT one on the table....

UMDNJ-SOM was only $185. Now that, in my opinion, is BANG for one's buck...

thanks for all the input, guys!

i just need to stop thinking about all the other things i could be spending this 2k on, and i'll be alright!

...the prices we pay to keep doors open!

I feel ya on that one. PCOM only requires an initial 250 dollar deposit to hold a spot.

OP: I would just pay the deposit, especially if you have no other acceptances.

I dropped $1000 on KCUMB three weeks ago, and the next day I was at Sam's Club and they had an open item TV with a screen the size of the windshield on my Jeep for about $960. Now, it looks like I have an acceptance to my top choice, so I could have bought that TV afterall (not that I could afford it).

HA HA!!! That really stinks!!!:meanie:

so i decided to pony up and overnight DCOM the check!

watch, my acceptance to WashU will roll in on Monday...

If it does, stop payment on the check. 😀

Hey medmom -

WVSOM hates me forever now-

I asked for an extension for a week so I could scrape together the money (also true, my dad's a self-employed lawyer and the money just wasn't there yet...). Low and behold, CCOM called and accepted me during that week. Their deposit was 250, low by comparison. I was happy to keep my $1,750 although I really thought WVSOM was a great school. 2k is too much money, but it's right up there with their 48k OOS tuition... a major turnoff for me.

i did that same thing to touro-nv (2000) and accepted azcom (250). i think i could be happy at either--and i definitely would have sent the money to touro-nv if azcom delayed their decisions...

i think you made the right choice joejones (aka "student doctor joejones"👍 )
