I was Diagnosed with idiopathic spinal epidural lipomatosis(Four level fatty tumor of the spinal canal with severe nerve compression) on thursday. Scheduled for emergent spinal decompression with tumor aspiration on the following Tuesday. Class orientation began on that SAME Tuesday. I made a quick phone call to SU on the thursday, the day I was diagnosed. In the moment I did what I could. Factors concerning survial, debilitation, bill payment, my wife who was a medical student, and etc trumped the follow-up with South University at the time. Also, I was younger then. And to be honest it was more of a character flaw of the University than anything else. I was admitted "early Decision" by two top ranked schools since that time, so I don't regret what happened at South University.
This is more personal-
+I graduated in the top 10% of my undergrad class
+ Was accepted into the state medical school on academic scholarship
+ Withdrew from the program( in 4th year) do to medical illnesses persist today.
At 30, I have had major spinal surgery, been diagnosed with congestive heart failure, narcolepsy and hypopituitarism. The last five years have been spent in hopsitals, doctors offices and procedural labs. My career has changed(from medicine to pharmacy) and my body is a weck for some unknown(idiopathic) cause (expected life span of less than 12years). I had to confirm deferment for my admission to UTmemphis class of 2012,with scholarship, in order to slow down the pituiary problems. UGA and Utmemphis have been understanding, unlike South University. Both programs help their students to succeed in their program, but more importantly in life( I spent one semester at UGA, when I was diagnosed with CHF- The dean assisted in my transfer to UTmemphis a year later). The answer to your question is that I was scared SH**less!
