Has anyone here successfully deferred an acceptance for one year? Does this mean that a seat for you is guaranteed for the next entering class? Also, I hear you have to re-apply to the school through AMCAS but why is this the case if you are already accepted?

The re-application is a formality and probably just part of the bookkeeping/bureaucratics of the med school. The application fee is waived.

when is the best time to go about requesting a deferral? i've been accepted to a couple schools over the past few months, but i'm not sure when i should ask...any advice?

I deferred for a year. It was an easy process to go through and a great year off. The financial aid package was the same for me. If you make a lot of money in your year off that does come up on the FAFSA. I think most schools have a deadline mentioned somewhere in their admissions information for requesting a deferment. I just had to submit something in writing saying I wanted a deferment before the end of May. Check with the school you're planning on going to for their deadline and process.

Wait--I just submitted my deferred matriculant application to AMCAS, and they made me pay! 😡 WTF?!?!
