Deferring d-school after getting accepted

Can you ask the school for a year deferral after you get your acceptance? The biggest reason being not able to come up with the tuition money through loan...

I believe it depends upon the school. I asked this at one school during an interview and they said, "no."

My friend had to defer med school bc he got a brain tumor the summer before med school started. (BTW, he had surgery that summer and is now a 1st year med student....keep him in your prayers!)
