Hi everyone,

I just got a 2 year postbac position at the NIH, and I think I'm gonna take the job.

My state school will not accept my 2014 MCAT after the 2016 cycle and it's actually my top choice due to cost/location. My state school admits a lot of people via ED and I think with my stats, assuming I don't totally blow the interview, I would get it.

The benefit of doing ED is that 1. I'm like 90% sure this is the school I would go to even if I did apply elsewhere and 2. I would get to pick my campus. The state is Indiana and to be honest I wouldn't want any other city except for Indianapolis and maybe bloomington.

TLDR - I want to apply ED this cycle but defer a year - do you guys think that would be possible? I can't apply to my state school ED or regular decision next year unless I take the new MCAT and my current score is actually good and I would rather not take the new one if I don't have to. I really want to do the IRTA program since my state schools research doesn't seem to be that great (good for primary care though - which is my goal).

Obligatory Stats: 3.9 GPA, 35 MCAT, 250 hours clinical volunteering, 120 hours shadowing, 150 hours non clinical volunteering, 1000+ hours of research and a 1st author publication in JACS, other small roles in clubs- no leadership positions

Your state actually does have good research, even starting freshman year. Call the school to find out about the deferral policy. You may have to sacrifice the preferred location.

tl;dr = too long, didn't read

You sort of made that part longer than the first part...

On the real, though, this is just a situation where you'll need to call up the school. I have no knowledge of Indiana, but as an IS kid with those stats you should be a no-brainer unless you don't interview well.

Haha yeah I realize that - by the time I got done writing I decided I didn't care and just submitted. I called the school and they said the do allow deferrals on a case by case basis, even with early decision, so hopefully it would work out for me.
