Deferring the Perkins Loan

Do we defer the Perkins loans at the same time we defer our Staffords or is there separate paperwork to defer the Perkins? Someone told me there was separate paperwork through our med school in order to defer our Perkins loan but I wanted to doublecheck this with you guys. Unfortunately, our fin aid counselor is on vaca so I couldn't get an answer this past week.

Perkins loans are deferred separately from the Staffords. They also have a 9 month grace period (instead of 6 like the staffords).
