Hello,

Please help I am seriously freaking out. I know the primary application does not ask whether or not you have ever deferred from any institutions. Does any one know if the secondary applications ask whether or not you have ever deferred from an institution. Or if interviewers ever ask about deferments?

Secondary applications depend on individual schools, so nobody can tell you what all secondaries say, actually I’ll take that back some people on SDN may have applied to all medical schools (not me though).

As far as interviews, it is not the first question asked, but they will probably ask you what were you doing last year and if you say you were applying to medical schools they will ask you what were the results. Sometimes they also ask you if you have applied in previous cycles and again what were the results…Do you get my hint?

In my experience, there have been schools whose secondaries ask for the names of the other schools you have applied to (not about your decision to attend or defer though they might ask about acceptance or withdrawal) and there are interviewers who ask the same & then ask if you've been accepted somewhere. When I've answered 'yes' to the latter, the interviewers haven't asked me about deferment but that really depends on the person who is interviewing you. They can take it as far as they want.

I am actually applying to UNE, did their secondary ask you about deferment?

UNECOM's secondary does ask you to list all allopathic & osteopathic schools you are applying to along with the month of application, but I don't recall anything specifically about deferment or decision etc

I don't believe so, but as mentioned previously they do ask you to list ALL osteopathic and allopathic institutions that you have applied to along with dates.

Again, I wouldn't worry as much about the secondaries as I would about the interview where they will ask you about your previous activities. So they want to know what you were doing during the previous year…. If you mention that you were applying to medical schools they want to know about the overall outcome….

I'm not sure what your situation is but I would NOT try to hide anything and I would address it in my personal statement IF you have a VALID reason because everybody will understand that issues come up…

However, schools will not look highly upon you, if you simply deferred to apply to other schools (if that is your reason)…
