Have you considered option 1 and taking a gap year (which would be applying the same time as option 2)? In doing so you would have more time to study for the MCAT, take upper division courses, and do well on them. A majority of people I have met on interviews have taken gap years, myself included. The benefit is that you can have all of your grades complete and the flexibility that people still in undergrad don’t have.

have you checked websites and requirements of the medical schools you might be interested in? Their Academic Requirements page will tell you what classes you must take. They are generally follow the same pattern:

8 credits of General Biology (about 2 semesters)
8 Credits of General Chemistry
8 Credits of Organic Chemistry
8 credits of Physics
6 credits of English

Some include 1 semester of biochemistry, statistics or math.

You do not have to have all of them to apply, but must have to have all of them done with grade C or above to start the school (aka matriculate).

General academic requirement is to have a bachelor's degree with ANY major and with CORE prerequisites done before matriculation. You do not need to take any other upper level science courses unless medical school specifically requires that course. People often take additional hard sciences if they are doing post-bacc or are trying to improve their overall or science GPA and show ADCOMs that they can handle heavy science coursework.




You often speak of application date as if it was a set date and you have to get everything done by that date. There is no set date. You set your own date when you will apply. Apply only when you are ready.

Also, do not underestimate that MCAT.
