Hey Guys. I've been lurking on the forums for a long time, and I really appreciate the advice here. I'm hoping if you're reading this that you can offer me some much needed advice. I am in my last 2 weeks of dedicated step 1 prep and I feel that I'm not ready to take step 1.
I took both UWSAs and an NBME and got 190's across the board. All were taken 1 week from each other during the last 3 weeks. I feel that I'm not making any progress even though I've gone through FA once including the FA Express lectures as well as 90% of UWorld.
I feel like delaying even though part of me wants to man up and bite the bullet even if it means scoring low and getting stuck with psychiatry. What do you guys think? Should I just risk failing and scoring low in the best case scenario?
If I do delay, should I petition for an entire rescheduling of my rotations so that it won't get recorded on the dean's letter as taking extra time off for step studying (offers me 1 month) or should I delay my first clinical rotation in order to get 2 months of study time? The rotation will have to be made up in 4th year and I'll have to talk to both the student promotion committee and dean to get that approved whereas the former is just an approval with the dean. Also, is there any reason the dean wouldn't approve either request? Do you think the dean would tell me to man up and take it anyway? If so, how should I deal with this? I really feel like I'll fail the exam if I take it even 2 weeks from now.
I should mention that I did poorly during my 1st two years of med school. Due to some serious issues within the family, I always had that on my chest and couldn't focus on my schoolwork as well as I should. I know that is a lame excuse and it is my own fault for not being able to focus but family always comes first and it is what it is. However, due to this, my knowledge foundation is pretty shaky. I'm at the end of the line and I would really appreciate some advice. I will keep you guys all updated on how things go and if things miraculously end up well, hopefully someone in the future who is struggling as much as I can benefit from this.
