Hi. I know that many M.D. schools let you delay entrance for a year after acceptance and that many D.O. schools don't let you delay entrance unless it's for a health deferral reason. Are there any D.O. schools that let you delay entrance for non-health reasons? I'd like to go work abroad for a year before entering med school, but I don't want to apply while I am abroad (increasing complications does not seem like fun).

some schools let you defer. I know MSU does. I think the reasons have to be good though, don't know if just "working abroad" will be good enough, but there are several D.O. schools that offer deferment,

I have a friend who deferred Nova for a year to work in Kenya. They loved the fact that she wanted to gain more international experience prior to coming to school there. In my experience, schools LOVE international experiences and the more you do the more they can brag about their incoming class.

I would think that you would have to have something lined up already, not just "um, so I want to go abroad for a year." If you go to them with a "so, while I was waiting for acceptances I found this opportunity and I want to take it and I think it will make me a better physician because...." I think that would make them more open to a deferral.
