Edit: Thanks for the support and advice. I'm doing quite alright now with a gap year in mind. I also managed to land an exciting research assistant position, and have made pragmatic plans for improving my living conditions in the near future.

1) So I read your entire post because this is clearly bothering you. I HIGHLY suggest that you try to improve your living situation and your mental health before even thinking about applying to med school. I assume you want to apply in June? It seems like the app cycle next year will just make your mental health even worse.

2) Reach out to your school's counseling resources and try to apply to more research positions.

I'm gonna tag @gyngyn and @Lucca because your post makes me believe that your mental health should be a priority right now.

Homelessness is not a strong place from which to apply.
You are more than a pre-med. Take all the time you need. We're not going anywhere.
Getting into medical school does not fix things.
While you are in school, use the services available to you.

Exactly this.

The last thing you need to be adding onto your plate right now is Med school application/matriculation. Get plugged in with mental health services through UCF, get your life back on track with a better living situation, and if possible continue to seek out volunteer opportunities in medicine that will give you more insight into whether this is a good fit career-wise for you.

Med school is a meat grinder from a psychological standpoint, and you need to be functioning at your best to do well. It’s not going anywhere and as @gyngyn said it’s definitely not going to fix anything. You need to take care of you right now.
