Hello all! I have been reading a lot of these pre-optometry forums for several months and firstly would like to thank everyone for their advice/ questions as it really helped me truly decide to pursue a career in optometry! I decided in January (super late, I know) to apply for optometry school as a junior rather than after completing my Bachelor's degree. Here are my stats:
GPA: 3.85 (80 hours completed, 15 hours this current semester)
sGPA: 3.70
I have shadowed an optician and an optometrist for well over 100 total hours, I am involved in SGA, volunteer work at the local animal shelter, and a member of AMSA.
I applied at SUNY and Salus (Salus is my #1 choice as my father went there to become an optometrist and is the main reason I want to pursue this career!)
I interviewed at Salus on 2/14 and received an email this morning that my application was reviewed but that a decision was not made. It said that it will be reviewed again upon submission of my midterm spring grades and GRE scores (I was not originally planning to apply for this application cycle, so I scheduled my GRE for MARCH 13th!!!)
Due to the fact that my official scores will likely come in right before the application deadline, do any of you have experience with applying this late in the cycle and still getting accepted? Should I wait until next cycle and apply right at the beginning? I was hoping to be admitted for this fall as I have completed all of the prerequisites with mainly A's and only a few B's. Additionally, due to it being Salus' first cycle accepting the GRE, I was wondering if there was a target range for how I should do on the test. Sorry this is so lengthy, and any and all advice would be so appreciated!!!
