So far I’d like to practice in Georgia in the future, so I am not planning on applying far from GA unless for research/specialize opportunities.
I would very much appreciate some help with my school list. I feel like I should extend my list, but I really don’t have much of a strong preference for the rest of the schools. Also, should I aim for more shadowing hours/variety of specialties before I submit? I have talked to some endodontists and periodontists and plan on shadowing them in the up coming year.
Thank you so much for the suggestions! If you want to practice in Georgia in your future, stay close to home. Check on Georgia matriculants at border schools like MUSC or UFSOD (I know they may not be as OOS friendly, but they have taken a number of GA residents before... check ADEA DSE/OG stats.) Maybe VCU or UNC (I'm avoiding the new school). You're picking Penn and Harvard for brand it seems because I'm not sure your research portfolio is enough.
despite your grades and dat, UF is still a reach because they don't take a lot of OOS applicants...Thank you so much for the suggestions!
I know a couple of friends from college who are GA residents and got into UFSOD, so I probably have a good chance there. VCU has also recently accepted GA residents. I do not satisfy the MUSC and UNC requirements pre-requisite wise (I am 4-8 hrs of upper-level science electives short). I have Penn and Harvard on the list because my lab PI strongly recommends them (he knows a few people that went there) and that my parents are saying that they will pay for them. I do agree that my research portfolio might not appeal to the Ivys, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to apply.
Adding UFSOD and VCU on my list will put me at 7 schools including 2 reach and 1 safety schools, which seems reasonable?
agreedapply to a couple more schools and you should be good...
