This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I’m currently taking a gap year while applying for the 2022-23 cycle and possibly have the opportunity to live rent-free in the UK. I think this would be a really cool opportunity to go abroad while I have the chance, and it looks like many med schools will still be doing virtual interviews this year. I would likely work part-time (maybe remote) to save up some money and try to do hospice volunteering like I’ve been doing the past two years, but I’m wondering if adcoms would look down on this?

I currently have ~500 clinical hours, 400 research hours, and 500+ non clinical volunteering.

Thanks!

I am not an adcom, but I am a current MS3 who took a year off to live in Costa Rica. I always had comments on this during my interviews. I think it shows maturity as well as a willingness to be outside your comfort zone.
