I was a volunteer assistant high school wrestling coach for about 100 hours. However I listed my wrestling coaching experience under “leadership” because while 100 hours were volunteering at a high school, the other 100 hours were paid K-5 coaching, so I was confused on what to put it under. I was thinking about breaking the two up into Seperate experiences so that I could boost non clinical volunteer hours. Do you think that would be a good idea?

Usually activities done in high school are too "old" for W/A unless it's something extraordinary like a STS/ISEF Grand Prize, Presidential Scholar, or Eagle Scout award. I think you can put it all under one header where you describe or focus on your wrestling coaching.

I asked because I wanted to know about service orientation activities, such as food distribution, shelter volunteering, job/tax preparation, transportation services, or housing rehabilitation. If you have zero hours in this category, many schools will deny your application regardless of anything else you have in your application.

In addition, for service orientation, although it was paid employment, for one of my clinical jobs at the mental health facility there was a big component of assisting the homeless with securing housing. Would that count?

In addition, what schools on my list do you think are more service oriented that I should perhaps reconsider applying to?

Break down the hours. I think you will get credit working with at-risk youth populations.

For service orientation, helping others find housing would count (it's not a "direct patient care medical/billable action that I know of"), so how many hours here?

Consider that discussing mental health is quite common as a personal statement/X factor (I say this being in Psychiatry myself). Make sure you bring something interesting to the table

I defer to others who do school lists to comment. But for the 150 hours working with the homeless, that's fine for me.
