I think it's easy for rising med students to say "all I need to do is memorize FA, right?" Yes, that will provide a good chunk of what is needed, but 1) that's no easy task, and 2) that's not the whole pie. You will need some other sources to supplement, and the question banks will help point you in the right direction for that.

I believe it depends on your background in the first years in med school.
We all know med students just studying FA and getting 240+ and others failing...
So the only one that really knows the answer is you...

Hi there,

I am currently a second year med student planning to do step 1 this summer. I'm currently planning to just get the First Aid 2012 book along with a question bank or 2. Do you guys that's enough to get me a high score (1 SD above)? (if I memorize everything in the first aid book). If not, what else should I add to my resources?

Thanks in advance!

Most people at my school do FA + one review book for each subject (ie. Rapid review path, rapid review biochem, clinical micro made ridiculously simple... etc.) + 2-3 QBanks (Kaplan, USMLERx, UWorld).
