I've been an ED tech for several years now in a very busy trauma center and throughout the years I've seen my share of head down, face palming cases. Cases such as victims of drunk driving being brought in with the drunk (often times it seems the victim is far worst off), or innocent bystanders shot by gangbangers that end up coming in themselves.
I'm sure most of the time it's nice to not know those details before you see a trauma case, but somehow the gossip floats around the ED and eventually everyone knows what's going on. As doctors, do cases like these ever bother you? I personally really enjoy emergency medicine and hope to get into it one day, but cases like these make me sick. Good thing they don't seem to be particularly common.
