Hi guys. I'm a D1 and I need some help. I am doing quite poorly so far in DA and mid terms are coming up next week!

Can some give me some suggestions on how to study for DA? My professor likes to use mostly recent board questions and someone recommended I get copies of the boards and study that, but I have no clue where to get these.

I would really appreciate some help from you guys. Thanks.

Get a copy of the dental decks for Nation Boards Part 1 (NBDE) and it will have Dental Anatomy Questions:

http://www.deckscorp.com/dental_decks1.shtml

Send an email out to the upper classmen who have taken part 1 boards at your school and see if any of them is willing to sell their decks...you'll want some anyways for when you study for boards and they will be cheaper.

As for how to study dental anatomy...it depends how your professors tests, but I found at my school that if you spend your time pretty much looking for exceptions to the norm, you can pretty much answer most of the questions on the tests. It's a lot of rote memorization and a little bit of seeing how one unique feature on a particular tooth actually causes, relates to, or coincides with another unique feature of that tooth. So I make lists of unique features and that helps a lot. Like which premolar is most likely to have 2 roots, which premolar is sometimes a tricuspid, which molars have 5 cusps, which teeth don't follow the usual pattern of mesial to distal proximal contact points, etc.

yep, i second that advice...my teacher was SO big on the exceptions that it wasn't even funny, just because that's how the boards usually go.

so instead of trying to learn every detail on every single tooth, try to get the general idea of what it looks like. definately try to get ahold of the dental decks. this website might not be too great, but at least it'll be a good place to get the picture of a tooth if you need them. http://www.dent.ohio-state.edu/scheid/

hope it helps. good luck! 🙂

This little reference book is great, I still refer to it often.

Dental Anantomy and Occlusion by Khalid Choudhary. ISBN 0-9651162-7-1

Should be able to pick it up for under $20
