dental assistant cert. needed in Fl?

i was wondering if anyone out there knew if you need a certificate to become a dental assistant in Fl? There is a one year program at my local C.C. and i was wondering if it's worth the trouble to go through it or if i can just be trained?

I am working as an assistant and I do not have any certification. My boss here in Sarasota knew I wanted to go to dental school and offered to train me to assist him. Many dentists need good assistants and if you appear motivated, they will train you on the job.
