Immediate dental position available in Richmond, VA for someone applying to dental school for fall of 2011. This position would be for a year while you are applying to dental school. It has been a tremendous experience. Anyone who is interested in this paid position and is applying this upcoming cycle send me a message and I will give you more detail and get you in contact with the office manager.

Thank you and good luck!

Working as a dental assistant would be at the bottom of a list of things one can do to improve the chances of acceptance.

Just stay out of my thread if you don't have anything nice to say. That is the most absurd statement I have heard. You can't get any better dental experience than this. So you say it has been a waste of time for me to become x-ray certified and learn how to take bite wings, PA's, and Pano. I pour up models and make bleaching trays. I have learned all the instruments now and the process of each procedure. I have learned about insurance, front office duties, dealing with patients, how to multitask and manager you day when you have emergency patients from the weekend or late in the day. The list goes on and on and please stay out of my thread.

PS: I just showed my dentist your statement and he just laughed his *** off.

Certainly not the bottom of the list in this specific category. Sure having a strong gpa and dat score are more important than holding paid experience as a dental assistant. But, would this not be better than shadowing (assuming two people with same gpa/dat/etc but only differing with regards to this)?

I think it sounds like a great opportunity to learn vital skills that would help anyone seeking to become a dentist.

You are right. We should be more mindful about encroaching on your "private playground". You and your friend, who seems to have his anatomy confused, appear to be unable to differentiate between what might improve an applicant's chances and what might or might not come in handy after acceptance or after enrolling.

I'm just not sure how showing commitment to the dental field through assisting could possibly be useless in the application process 😕

You will just have to continue to be confused.

I agree with both of these statements. I think that dental experience will be helpful once IN school. I worked in a dental office and feel that it does not help my application all that much, and it would be on the "bottom" of the list for getting accepted. DAT, GPA, community service, research, personal statement, LORs, etc all come first as far as getting acceptance. As far as once in dental school, working in a dental office obviously would help more.

1. Hit submit on AADSAS Application
2. GPA&DAT scores go into schools database
3. Computer software generates a list of applicants with the highest GPA and DAT scores
4. Applicants from the list in #3 get the interview
5. Applicant does a superb job during the interview (LOR, extracurricular activities, research, etc. are discussed here)
6. December 1: Acceptance letter

This is how dental admission works for a traditional non-URM student.
