Hi,
I am FTD residing in Illinois and here there are no pre-requisites or examinations needed to be a dental assistant.

http://www.danb.org/Home/Meet State Requirements/State-Specific-Information/Illinois.aspx .

I am on the look out for dental assistant positions presently and have written the cover letter but am not sure what to write Under experience as I have not been in contact with clinical dentistry for the last 10 years ( except for a short stint of shadowing of 3 months of this year) , any help in this would be greatly appreciated.

Is it advisable to just drop-into the dental offices close by?

For all those fellow FTD's who have been holding a dental assistant position how did you all go about to secure the position.

No I have not taken any exams. However I am thinking of taking the CDA exam ( it covers the RHS exam too). I have been looking at DA jobs on craigslist and most of the offices are asking for experience. Hoping to get a DA position somewhere.

What state do u live. All states have different examination

As stated in my 1st post I reside in Illinois and here we actually do not need any pre-requisites or exams to work as a DA. Where do you reside? And have you taken any exams to be able to work as a DA?

I live in PA.

Was the exam difficult and did it help you to land a job? Sorry for so many questions.

Good to know that it is easy. I have my part 2 scheduled for Dec and am wondering if I should spend time on the CDA. But a part of me keeps thinking that the radiology part and even the IC component of the CDA will be touched upon in part 2 , so technically it is not a waste of time but the cost $375 is what is making me think.

That's cool. I have not scheduled my part 2 . I would say go for only rhs. Other parts are not going to help any how its hard to get a job even with CDA without experience. They know very well that u r not going to stick them for longer time.
