hi,is it really important to work as an assistant while applying to schools.i know almost all applications ask for work experience in usa.I guess what i am trying to ask is if i show that i have worked as a da here in usa is it going to have additional benefits or add more value to the application.😕

hi,i am finding it so hard to find a job as a dental assistant.first they ask if we plan on going back to school and then they say they need someone more permanent.for those of you who r working or had worked as assistant plz post ur inputs here.

I tried to get the position of DA for 3 months! So far there is no result... At the moment I am a little desperate about the idea of working as a DA. :-(((

hi again,today i was offered a job as an d assistant.the job starts from july and the dentist said he wud pay $11 an hour.just wanted to know if that is the right pay to start with.if any one has any idea plz do reply.

if u have a da licience then u would be paid around $15 +.....if u r not licenced then $11 is good .hey my starting pay was $9an hour so its good to start with what ur getting once u work for 6 months or so ask for a raise .......hope this helps

Good discussion, but can we show in the resume that volunteer work was done in the clinic, that will be legal right?

there is nothing wrong or illegal in working as a da.......if it is illegal in some states,dentist would not hire u.....i have worked as dental assistant and infact this working experienc got me into dental school this year.....if u get a chance do get expirience...

I can under stand how frustating it is to find a job as dental assistant .iam in michigan done with RT exam And preparing for wreb.I cant find a DA job.Is it really illegal to work as DA.Its written on ada web site that we can work as dental assistant.I cant get it how it is illegal to work asDA if lot of us are working.can any on clarify that.I am taking dental radiology course i found that lot of dental assistants working with dentists are not even certified.dentist usually train them.How come its illegal for FTD to work as DA.No offense But DDS! can you clarify that

for those of us at sdn who are working as dental assistant can u plz tell me does cleaning the office comes under the job description of da.i mean i understand cleaning the dental chair but the office like vacuuming and stuff is that asking for too much or is it part of the job.😱

Actually it's not illegal but there some reasons making it hard for us:

1-They know that you are a dentist and that is not your carrier and you will leave them may be soon.They wanna someone to invest in.
2-They want experience in America though you are dentist but still.
3- If you are a male you get less chance as most of them want a female .
4- The language some times play a role as most of us to certain extent have accent .
5-Some dentists think that you gonna be judgmental as you are a dentist.


Though it's hard but you still have chance I work actually as a DA right now

I believe it is illegal to work on a H4 visa according to immigration law. But, I heard volunteer is fine, and if the emplyer decided to give you bus pass,uniform,other gifts, it is fine too.
