Dental Assisting Certification - Worth it?

I am a pre-dental student right now. Through my Universities pre dent club I have the opportunity to get my dental assisting certificate for about $50 dollars. I am wondering if it is worth it as a pre dent student. Will it look good on my Dental School Application in the future? Do Dent schools even care? Is it likely I will be able to find a job as a dental assistant?
