Hey I'm not sure what exactly you are asking...but I think I may be the exact case. So I'm applying to school in June, and I recently just got hired as a dental assistant! For a month and a half I looked on craigslist almost daily to see every dental assistant job in my area and see whether they would take a student/ willing to train someone with no experience. It is possible! I found a student internship (paid) where I'm working as a dental assistnat and they are training me to do so. You can also find positions at smaller family practices as they are more willing to train someone without experience. When I looked I kept seeing you must have 1-2 yr experience as DA, xray certification etc etc, but I found 2-3 in my search 2 willing to train a student, and 1 that was a full student internship (who was willing to pay for me to get xray certified!)
So definitely keep trying, cause at one point you will get lucky and find an opportunity if thats what you really want (try the outskirts of a major city if thats where you are living)
So far I'm in my first week, but I've learned a TON already and plan to talk about the expereience when I interview...I've poured/trimmed my first model, seen so many different procedures and am also one benefit that you don't get from dental school am learning office management training. Seeing the business side to things is a lot more difficult unless your working in someones business experiencing all the plus and minuses that help to make a practice run smoothly!
