What are the essential dental school books for one to have a basic understanding of dentistry?

It seems your first year classes use the same materials we do in medical school (ie, Netter, Robbins, etc.). Which books would you consider essential for someone looking to get a basic grasp of dentistry as quickly and painlessly as possible?

I don't think anyone answered your question because it's a tough one to answer. All of the books we've ever had in school weigh 20lbs and would be much too detailed for what you are looking for.

List away with the books if you can. I'll peruse them at the dental library before deciding to buy them.

Sturdevant's Art and Science of Operative Dentistry
Proffit: Contemporary Ortho
Ten Cate: Oral Histology
Stewart's Clinical Removable Partial Prosthodontics
Walton: Principles and Practice of Endodontics

a lot of the upperclassmen at my school recommend Brand's Anatomy of Orofacial Structures, especially for the boards. anyone else?

Fedor, are you a dental student? You should review the books your professors assign to you. Any school will provide you with the materials that you need to read. If you are not yet a dental student, you should enjoy your time now. There will be plenty of time for reading and studying later.
