So I will be a new student this upcoming Fall/Summer at UTHSCSA and just received news that due to some medical problems, the president of the university has to go on leave and our dental dean will fill his shoes leaving an interim dean for us. After the president returns, our dental dean will retire after serving as dean for 25 years of the dental school. I realize that this type of thing is out of our control but how do y'all think this may affect us incoming students? (students of UTHSCSA may probably be able to relate more as they have experiences with the school and how it operates...)

I know that maybe 10 years ago, this school was ranked amongst the best and that had a lot to do with the guidance and direction the current dean was leading the school in, I'm just wondering if these types of changes will affect our schooling in terms of being a huge distraction or do these types of things usually go smoothly without very much notice on the part of the students.

Any help/insight would be great since I've worked really hard for this and am nervous beyond belief. All this change doesn't help at all..😳

Thanks!

I'm a graduate of that program and spoke to the exiting dean all of one time for five minutes outside of the graduation handshake.

Unless the rest of the core decision makers in the dental school also all retire you as a student won't even notice any changes.
