Although I'm not completely sure, I've heard that the category of Dental Shadowing on the AADSAS application has been reworded to Dental Experiences this year. Does this mean that anything I would list as a dental experience counts towards my total shadowing hours? I'm trying to figure out if I'm at the required amount of hours for a school or not.

You are correct about the switch to Dental Experiences. All shadowing hours would fall under this label, but not all dental experiences may qualify as shadowing. When schools give a shadowing requirement, they are most likely looking for x amount of hours spent observing a dentist or specialist. I'm not sure what you are putting under dental experiences besides shadowing, but I'd be hesitant to rely on experiences that did not involve directly observing a dentist to fulfill shadowing hours.

Volunteering in the dental field would also fall under the category Dental Experiences.

Good question! When I needed to shadow a dentist I didn't go in as a volunteer because I wanted to get paid so I went in as a different role. I got everything from that... paid, LOR, and what I needed on the app, and even wrote my personal statement from my experience there. Make sure you word it nicely on your app
