Does anyone have a preference regarding dental loupes? Do you like the kind that flip up, or the ones that are stationary? Has anyone had a negative experience with a particular brand, or really liked the loupes they bought from a certain company?

Thanks for any feedback in advance.

I have had orascoptic and design for vision. Both great companies. With design for vision I had the "buddy holly" frames with the 3.5 expanded field. These were beautiful in regards to optics, but were way way to heavy. Switched to Orascoptic revolution frame (aka through- the flip) with 3.3 loupes and liked them at first, but after some time (8 months) they started falling apart. I was able to get Orascoptic to replace them with the victory frame and new 3.3 loupes and I have been very happy with these loupes. I definitely prefer through the lens over flip up. My next pair of loupes will probably be surgitel. I like their frames and They have the smallest and lightest expanded field 3.5 which looks very promising.

I have design for vision 2.5x loupes. They are great but I do not suggest buying the Nike frames.
Their costumer service is also crazy good.

in dental school i had orascoptic through the lens 2.5 mag.

Now working, I would get slightly higher mag and dont get frames based on looks get them to help protect your eyes. The "goofy" ones that are large on your face, maybe your old dentist wears them are probably the better way to go. More eye coverage, less likely to get something in your eye. Goodluck

surgitel 3.0 oakley M frames. LOVE THEM.

the M frame wraps around and protects my eyes from the sides. They also sit well on my cheeks for protection from underneath.

I like the 3.0s, so glad I didn't get 2.5x.

Best advice right up here. make sure you get the bigger frames (which can also be comfortable) for better eye protection.

if you are looking for a good quality dental loupes, you can visit : www.care-optics.com and buy the lopes on line. there are different style: Flip Up dental loupes, Normal TTL (throught the lens ) loupes, TTL combines Flip Up Loupes, Headband style loupes, Clip On Loupes, and also have high quality dental LED headlight.
the quality is the the best and price is lowest.

no offense, but the 2 never go hand-in-hand.

Hup

wait until the reps show up at your school then try out some competing loupes. or borrow someone's loops until you figure out what you like. there is no rush. i've seen flip downs on e-bay for $140 (us) that several classmates have and are happy using. I've seen classmates with super expensive models as well. Mostly it's user preference and price sensitivity. Buy your first pair with the understanding you will likely end up buying another pair either later in dental school or in your work life after school.

One of the things that I have seen with the different flip ups that classmates have used is that thre is now a lot of difference between the quality of the actual lenses to jusify the huge price differences. I love my Surgitel 2.5x flip-up Oakleys. if you do a search, you will find multiple threads talking about loupes and there are quite a few haters of the Surgitels, but it is no different than the Oroscopic that was mentioned by smc2ucla2 earlier. All the companies are going to have some people who love em and some will hate them. Just depends on your experience. Some hate the cheap ones and some swear by them. I will have to say, for me, i am going to gamble next time I get new loupes. I am going to go with a cheap company with flip-ups and then mount that flip-up mount on to a nice pair of safety glasses that fit my head and face well. I will save a ton of money by not paying for a brand name loupe company who sells a brand name for the glasses like Oakley. I realistically don't think there will be too much of a difference when i do this.

Got mine from ebay for $120 shipped. They are no different than the other $1000 magnifying lenses! Don't fall for the fancy name..

hi...I will appreciate if anybody can share input on Carl-zeiss loupes.
thanks....🙂
