hi friends,
I am starting this thread so that we can post mnemonics(dental & medical) here which will help us to remember important points easily.
for example,
structures passing through foramen ovale:MALE
M - mandibular Nr.
A - accessory maningeal artery
L - lesser petrosal Nr.
E - emissary vein
I think this will be useful for all of us who are preparing for part1 and part2

My friend told me a good one for glycolysis. It helped me do well on the DATs. Girls Get Fat First, Get Drunk Blowing Psycho Perverted People Perpetually.

2. Glucose-6-p
3. Fructose-6-p
4. Fructose-1,6-bis-p
5. G3P + Dihydroxyacetone-p
6. 1,3-bisphosphoglycerate
7. 3-phosphoglycerate

B1 = thiamine

copy from i-net :

Which cranial nerves are sensory (feeling), motor (movement), or both ? The cranial nerves number one through twelve (dentists deal primarily with cranial nerve number five, the trigeminal nerve).
The mnemonic is:
1Some 2Say 3Marry 4Money, 5But 6My 7Brother 8Says 9Big 10Brains 11Matter 12Most.
By remembering this mnemonic, we instantly know that cranial nerve five is both (5B) sensory and motor.

The Krebs cycle:

Can I Keep Selling Sex For Money, Officer

Citrate, Isocitrate, alpha Ketoglutarate, Succinyl CoA, Succinate, Fumarate, Malate, Oxaloacetate

Mnemonic-
Citric Acid Is Kreb's Starting Substrate For Mitochondrial Oxidation

Kreb's Cycle Substrates

Citric acid
Iso-Aconitase
Iso-citrate
Alpha-Ketoglutarate
Succinyl CoA
Succinate
Fumarate
Maleate
Oxaloacetate

These are R-rated...

External Carotid:

Steve And Lisa Find Orgy Parties Most Satisfying

Superior thyroid, Ascending Pharyngeal, Lingual, Facial, Occipital, Posterior Auricular, Maxillary

Branches of the maxillary nerve:

Dave And Isabel Miss A Massive Dick Probably Because Daves Penis Is Small

Deep Auricular, Anterior Tympanic, IA, Middle meningeal, Accessory meningeal, Masseteric, Deep temporal, Pterygoid, Buccal, Descending palatine, PSA, Infraorbital, Sphenopalatine

(thats an original I made myself :))

I found this thread and thought I'd bring it back so we can add to it! (Was going to start my own, but this will be even better!)

ok: mnemonics. spill! :D

Here is an anagram for retroperitoneal organs:

Ureters
Pancreas (except tail)
Aorta

Ooh, here's another I made up. Sorry for teh dirty.

Things in the pterygopalatine fossa:

"For great peters, please pay in sex."

Foramen rotundum
Greater palatine foramen
Pterygoid canal
Pterygomaxillary fissure
Pharyngeal canal
Inferior orbital fissure
Sphenopalatine foramen

*Cheering* "3, 4, 6, 8, who do we dehydrogenase."

For the Krebs cycle this will help you remember which steps are generating NADH and FADH2 and what enzymes are being used:

Isocitrate to alpha-Ketogluturate Isocitrate dehydrogenase NADH

alpha Ketoglutarate to Succinyl-CoA alpha ketoglutarate
dehydrogenase NADH

Succinate to Fumarate Succinate dehydrogenase FADH2

Malate to Oxaloacetate Malate dehydrogenase NADH

THIS POST WAS A VERY GOOD IDEA, LET'S KEEP IT GOING!!!!

wow... that's too bad.... there went the thread... :(

it was really good... why do all the good mnemonics have to be dirty??! guess it makes them more entertaining to remember... i know it works better for me!

anyone got any good ones that won't get the mods all cranky pants?

I'm veggie so for the cranial nerves I use this:

ooh ooh ooh, to taste and feel very green veggies, ah heaven!

to remember the order of the O's... you have 1 nose and 2 eyes:
1. Optic
2. Opthalmic
3. Occulomotor
4. Trochlear
5. Trigem
6. Abducent
7. Facial
8. Vestibulocochlear
9. Glossopharyngeal
9. Vagus
11. Accessory

Leukemia

· Cause: Associated with genetic, chromosomal, and environmental factors.

· Genetic: Town syndrome, Bloom Syndrome, Klinefelter Syndrome
Leuk = white; Kline-felter = clean filter --> what is white? A clean filter.
Or: A Kline Town with Blooms IN WHITE. – A clean town with white blooms (flowers).

· Chromosomal abnormalities: Philadelphia chromosome t(9;22)
~Again~ Leuk = white --> Philadelphia cheese is a white cheese. Yummm..

· Viruses: HTLV-1 (Human T-lymphotropic virus 1)
You Leuk HT-LV = you look HOT, LOVE!

Paget’s disease of bone:

· This disease causes abnormal deposition and resorption of bone.
Paget = page = You do not know whether to turn the page up or down (deposition/ resorption)

· Clinical Signs and Symptoms:

a. Maxillary involvement is more than mandibular.
Turn up the pages. (Maxillary arch is the upper arch, and it is has the upper (more) involvement.

b. Lion-like face deformity:
Paget = Peugeot car. (Lion logo).

c. Radiographically: cotton-wool appearance.
Page (paper) is white like cotton.
