  1. Pre-Dental
hi guys:

I need some advice, I just got accepted to a post-bac dental program, and I am not sure if I should take it as my research project is doing so well.... according to my mentor, this project could be the biggest discovery in our field for the last 20 years. (it has to do with heart research) so I am not sure if I should stay and do graduate studies with this project or if I should do the post-bac dental program. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated...... Thanks!!!

Do you want to be a dentist or a researcher? I guess you could wait a year if it is important to you.

This is my opinion...

You really have just 2 easy options to pick (and they both require you to stay with your research)

Option1) If you have finished your pre-dental requirements:
simply finish your research, and afterwards apply to dental schools, no school wouldn't be honored to have a guy in thier class who did a successfull heart research.

Option2) If you have not finished your pre-dental requirements:
Simply finish those requirements, take your DAT, and do Option 1

Is it a shotgun post bacc program that will have you done in a year?

I went back post-bacc, just took the prereqs and applied. If the research means a lot to you, you may want to look at just taking the required courses that you have left while working on the research. If you are participating in heart research, I assume that you already have some of the course requirements under your belt.

Where is a post-bac dental program offered? I did a post-bac biomedical program in Erie, Pa and did very well (4.0) but did not get into dental school based on my DAT scores. I was placed on Louisville's alternate list, but did not get in due to them filling the seats before my interview. My post-bac courses were 1st yr med/dent courses, (biochem, anat, pharm, micro, phys, etc..) all taught by the medical professors. I need to take refresher courses on the sections tested on the DAT. Is this program structured for the DAT or what I've already done? THANKS!

i have a friend in a similar sitn, ill tell u what i told him. from my experience, making a major discovery would make your app stand out more than a post-bacc. look at it this way, not many students will have your research experience, but a lot will have completed a post-bacc. i dont know how far ur post-bacc is in relation to where u live or how much of a hassle it will be financially, but i assume staying where u are and working on research that ur comfortable with might be the best fit for you. just my 2 cents
