Has anyone clicked on the advertisement for the dental rat? That thing costs a freaking $1400!! For a mouse! https://store.dentalrat.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=dental&Extensive_Search=Y

I don't know how anyone could justify buying that when you could buy 50 regular mice with the same dough...geez....

At this rate, you could buy two complete computers.

BTW, anyone know a dentist who has one? lol.

The dental rat is actually a little more complex than a regular computer mouse. It is specifically designed for perio charting which is why it includes the numbers 1-8. Most hygienists and doctors that use it find it to be very convenient. If you are using your hand mouse for perio charting than you are carrying germs from your patients mouth to the computer and vice versa. With the dental rat you can perio chart using your foot to run the cursor and input the numbers, also you can pull up your x-rays and intraoral camera without there being any cross-contamination.

I use the Dental RAT everyday in my office and it is worth so much more than $1400. It's paid for itself many times over. If I didn't have the Dental RAT, I would be needing an assistant to perio chart with me, which is much more expensive. In addition, my production has increased because I am finding and treating perio disease. (Can you believe that there are offices where patients don't get perio charted annually??? I know, hard to believe. Imagine the problems.)

My dentist sees it as one of the most useful and valuable pieces of equipment for the hygienist. He's bought a total of 3--one for each hygiene room. Not only can I perio chart, I can also educate my patients with access to the x-rays and intraoral pictures. I can also get to my appointment book and anything else--all without cross-contamination or needing a second person!

Why does it seem that the two posts above are from the company that sells this product? What they stated seems identical to what the company would advertise. LOL.

Hi my name is Becky and I do own the Dental R.A.T. and yes I own the patent🙂 sorry. it really is pretty fun and saves the doctor alot of money rather than having an extra assistant enter the numbers for the hygienist. Plus you can run any program with it without cross contaminating. Most students and offices are really liking it, its simple but accurate. the other options are about 3-5 times more expensive!!! So considering, it is much less!

But no, none of the previous posts are people that work for me. 🙁
this is a great forum, i found it thru the last dental meeting i went to. Alot of schools and offices have been using the Dental R.A.T. and obviously felt like speaking up since your comment was so blunt. Thanks for bringing it up though 🙂

There will be many people willing to tell you what products you need for your pratice. You will get the reps that are biased since they make commissions off of what they sell. You will pay for continuing education that you think are non-biased, but many speakers are paid to present some information and also pitch some products. You will hire consultants on how to make your practice more profitable and they may get paid to sell you products.

I have been there and done that. We have machines and equipment in the drawers and closets of our office. The product wasn't as good as the pitch. The reason I responded was because the Dental Rat is a product that I uses everyday and hasn't gone to the drawer or closet. I told my school about it and the students are graduating with this technology.

Go ahead and hire a consultant. They will tell you about products that they may have never even used. They may contribute to frustration as to why you spent a lot of money for something that is now in the closet or in the drawers. The best place to get advice about equipment is from people that actually use it. That is the reason I responded.
