Hey everyone so I need advice about when to apply to dental school. The rule of thumb is to apply early but with my stats I need any boost I can get. I have spoken to a couple admissions people and they say that I should wait until I get a DAT score. I'm having anxiety because my DAT is a month from now. I currently have a 3.35 gpa in my masters and about a 2.7 in undergrad. I'm non traditional so I'm in my late 20s with tons of work experience, research, shadowing, and maturity. I'm also taking physio so if I get an A it'll push my masters gpa to a 3.45. I just need advice. I feel like Im all over the place. It has been a rough year I had two deaths in a span of two weeks. And I'm battling with my mom being sick. I'm also trying to balance studying for physio and DAT. I just pray and hope that there is a light at the end of this tunnel. Any advice would be great. Thanks!

You are going through a very, very rough time. I'm so sorry. 🙁

I think that maybe, in light of recent events, you should wait until next cycle to apply. You have enough pressure on you as-is, and I know it will be very hard to balance applying with your coursework. Also, in all honesty, you need more time to increase your Master's GPA. Please try to get all As from this point out--it is imperative that you do so.

Don't rush the DAT. Maybe you need to take it next year when you aren't dealing with so much--there's no shame in that. Just take it before July, and you will be early. To help with your GPA, you will need a very good DAT score.

My honest advice is that it wouldn't be very wise to apply this cycle. Don't try to do too much at once. It will all work out, but please take care of yourself first. You don't want to sabotage your chances by taking on too many things.
