Hi everyone, this is my first post on SDN.

I am participating in the 2014/2015 application cycle and was just wondering if you guys can give some suggestions on the best dental schools for my stats.

I'm an Biology major with Business Studies minor, rising senior.
Total GPA: 3.60
Science GPA: 3.67

DAT breakdown (all scores except RC are in 90th percentile):
AA: 21
TS: 22
PAT: 26
Bio: 21
GC: 23
OC: 22
RC: 20
QR: 19

I got a year worth of dental clinic volunteer, a few months of experience interning at a private clinic, and 2 years of research experience (one small publication).

Extracurriculars: A capella group, SAT/TOEFL tutoring job

Schools I'm interested in applying to (bolded ones are my top choices):
NYU
Stony Brook

Buffalo
Columbia
UPenn
Tufts
Rutgers Dental
... Is this enough??

I do want to stay as close to NYC as possible and am looking into oral surgery, ortho, endo, and pedo.

If you guys can give any suggestions or tips on school programs as well as on my chances of getting in, it would be much appreciated!!!
Thanks! 🙂

I think 10-12 schools would be a good number. I like the ones sjv suggested. My other suggestion would be Case Western.

Thank you for the suggestions! What do you think of my chances of getting into my top choices?

I'm hearing that Stony Brook is really difficult to get into even for NY residents... it's my top choice too. Does anyone who's applied to SB have any stats and experiences they are willing to share? I'm loosing hope :bigtears:

Your stats are good enough for anywhere, but especially for NYU. If you don't mind me asking, why is it the top choice of yours? Check out UCONN too.

Thanks for the encouragement. I have personally visited the campus area and I really like the location. People said their facilities are excellent and class size is small in general, which I like. Most importantly, it is crazy cheap for a dental school! BUT, I've seen several lists of dental schools average accepted students' stats, and SB ranked highest.. above Harvard, Columbia, UPenn etc... x_____x

try houston and san antonio dental school in texas they're both good schools🙂

Yeah I've heard! Except I really just want to stay in the Northeast...

Here is my updated list so far:
NYU
Stony Brook

Buffalo
Columbia
UPenn
Tufts
Rutgers Dental
Temple
UConn
Boston U

Has anyone heard how good UConn dental school is? I can't seem to find much information on their DMD program and the school in general.

Oh I get why you would want to go to SB…I actually go to grad school there. NYU is kinda the polar opposite though….big class, big city, egregiously expensive. I was wondering why it was also a top choice of yours (besides proximity).

yeah NYU is up there just because of proximity and convenience (I won't need to get an apartment). How's grad school at SB?
