Hi, I'm new here. I have thought about a career change to become a dentist. Since I graduated from university 5 -6 years ago, are there dental schools that do not have course restrictions for students, such as taking general chem or general biol classes no more than 5 years ago? I hope that made sense. I know there are some schools that state certain classes must have been taken no more than 5 years ago and I want to know if there are schools that do NOT have such silly restrictions. I graduated with a science degree, so I already took those classes and do not want to re-take those general courses. Any help would help me decide my next step to take. Thanks!

You are going to want to contact the schools that you are interested in. Have you taken the DAT? If you take the DAT and manage to do well on it, then maybe those restrictions are silly. However, a foundation in those courses is necessary to be successful in dental school, so you will want to make sure that you can actually recall the material. If you can get out of the 5 year restriction and have not taken the DAT, a DAT course may just be the refresher you need.

I think you're going to do awsome on the science part of the DAT after 5 years out of school...thats enough time for you to rest before you take the biggest test of your life
haha

call the schools individually to see if such a requirement is in place. Even if there is no such rule, I think it would be advisable to enroll at least part time and take a few refresher science courses to get you back into the routine. this wont hurt in dat preparation either.
