hi everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone knows whether or not dental schools give tours of their facilities to individuals who seek to simply to see what the schools have to offer. Can such tours be arranged by calling the school in advance and making an appointment, simply by showing up, or are we limited to tours should we be invited for an interview?

i think most schools would be willing to give tours to prospective applicants. when you are invited to interview they will also give you a tour. i would just wait to see if you get an interview because that means the school is seriously considering your application. that way you dont spend the money twice to travel to the school.

I'm pretty sure you can request a student guided tour of Pacific during the school year, but I'm pretty sure they only happen on lunch hours and saturdays.

I'd agree with that, with one caveat. I think it would be incredibly helpful to travel back if you've been accepted to multiple schools and are having a hard time deciding. That way you can break out of the "Must impress faculty" mode of an interview and see things in a more relaxed, day to day environment.

I think it depends on the school. I went to Temple Undergrad and we would tour (with our pre-dental society) the Temple Dental and went to UPenn Dental a few times (maybe they let us because of it being a large group associated with the school). However, we tried to get a visit to NYU as a group and I have tried just by myself to visit NYU Dental while I'm visiting my girlfriend at NYU and they told me you can only get the tour if your are invited to the interview. I would just call the schools your interested in.

I know that Tufts and BU don't offer personal tours (not sure about group tours) unless you've been invited for an interview.

great thx everyone for your input.

Arizona would love to give you a tour, although the person giving it may not have 100% up-to-date information. They also have open houses (which are great) several times throughout the year. There are typically 200-300 predental students at those open houses, so they aren't exactly an intimate affair. You can still get lots of good info, though.
