Im a undergraduate and I was curious if dental school had the residency requirment that medicine has?

Also that if I wanted to specialize in something what the time it would take to complete it would look like?

4yrs Undergraduate
4yrs Dental School
1+ ? years of Specialty

How many years does a speciality last?

depends, some 2, 3, or more.

Depends. Some states don't require a residency and you can practice general dentistry right off the bat. Some, like New York, require that you attend some form of advanced education in at least general dentistry to be able to practice. Residency could last up to six years (for oral surgery, with a medical degree).

It's probably better to ask people in the dental or residency forums. I don't think people here know much about that yet. . . Most are just applying to get into dental school.

Oral and Maxillofacial surgery is 4 years, 6 years if you want the MD as well, Ortho is generally 3 years, and most others are about 2 years
