Dental Schools perception of different undergrad programs

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
is rigor of the undergrad school really a factor in admissions?

what does your intuition tell you?

but more importantly, are you in a position to change your undergrad school? most people aren't. so your question is irrelevant. just do your best to get a high gpa/dat score, and let fate take hold.

Exactly. +1

wherever you went for undergrad doesn't really matter...according to dental schools i asked....as long as it wasn't a community college.....dental schools don't like seeing that you spent time at community colleges. i am personally going to a division 3 smaller university for undergrad and have received 5 interviews so far.

i know some schools do an adjustment based on your undergrad school, but i doubt it makes too much of a difference.

thanks for your input. i was not really looking for advice on life like the guy who said just do your best at your school cause you cant change it. that kinda goes without saying. but thanks to froggbuster and couple others for the insight into the actual admissions process.

I think it only comes into play later in the cycle. Initially they run a screen on the numbers. So a 3.2 GPA from M.I.T. will get overlooked where a 3.9 GPA from a grade inflated university will go to the top of the stack. Each school has it's own method but I would be surprised if they didn't do an initial 3.5+ cut and look at those apps first. You got to start somewhere....
