I'm just wondering which schools require students to schedule their own patients. I was under the impression that all students had to do this, but at one of my interviews the students were saying that they hated having to schedule their own patients. Do most dental students at other schools not have to do this? I'm confused...

I'm just wondering which schools require students to schedule their own patients. I've heard that this can be quite a burden while you are going through dental school.

i love scheduling my own patients. i can take three day weekends or friday afternoons off here and there if i want. i'm not saying i do it all the time since you're paying to be there, but it's a nice option if you have other things you want to do

You know that the Thursday morning operative instructor is horrible, are you going to schedule the operative appointment then? Nope 😀

My third year I scheduled all my own patients- and my fourth year I am not allowed to call my patients to schedule (we can do it chairside) If I had a choice then I would choose scheduling my own in dental school-
our schedulers are more of a "big brother" making sure we follow every stupid rule and mess up more appointments than they fix. All they do is cause trouble.
So it may take a little time to schedule your own appointments but it is worth it!

As of right now we schedule our own patients, but we were told just this week they're determined to do away with this by summer 2012 at the latest.

We don't/won't have to worry about that at Western. They schedule our patients for us. One less thing to worry about!

I just found out that I was misinformed about the scheduling of our patients. We have not yet been told if we will schedule our own of if they will do it for us (the person I got my information from was assuming the school would schedule them for us - I thought they had been told that for a fact). The school does, however, find all of our patients for us. Sorry about that guys!

Hup, we've been in the clinic doing some little things on each other for practice and have done some work out in the community, but won't start seeing patients full time until June.

We schedule our own patients at NYU. I can't imagine doing it any other way -- I've done 10 arches of complete dentures with 10 different faculty and learned something new each time.

We schedule our own patients, but within designated clinic slots for particular branches. For example, my pros session is Monday 11:00-13:00. There is quite a crazy quota system, so no sessions are wasted!

At SB you schedule all your patients 2nd and 3rd years, although apparently this year the very first patient for 2nd year clinic was scheduled for you.

In 4th year we can't modify our schedule. Our clinic manager has to do it for us, so they do all the scheduling, confirming, canceling, etc. That doesn't mean we can't pick out the next appointment date if we want to. If I want my patient in ASAP I'll pull up my scheduler, pick a date with them, and write it on the paper that my patient will bring to my manager.

I'm happy that the students at UMKC have to schedule their own patients. I think it will be nice to move at my own pace on graduation requirements. Also, it will be cool to be able to focus on certain procedures that I have an interest in, that way I can go beyond grad requirements if I want to (ie endo, oral surgery, etc).

At Colorado we do... There is a coordinator assigned to about 12-15 students though so the patients have someone to contact other then you if needed.
